The Broken Hill Health Service is inviting everyone who ever worked at the Broken Hill hospital join them in celebrating its 125th anniversary.

“We want all past and present employees of all departments of the BH Hospital to join us as we celebrate this special occasion,” said one of the organisers, Jan Pearce.

The celebrations start on Friday, July 20 with a “meet and greet” at the Tydvil Hotel at 7pm.

A reunion will be held at the Civic Centre the next night at 7pm.

Tickets cost $50 each and include a complimentary drink on arrival, a continuous supper, music, guest speakers and a door prize. Dress is semi formal.

During the night, long-serving staff will be recognised and a display of photos of staff members and the Health Service will also be shown.

Anyone has photos to contribute is asked to take them to Nursing Administration at the hospital where they will be scanned and returned.

Ms Pearce said she expected many former employees to leap at the chance to catch up with their old workmates.

“Our health service has 125 years of history behind it and we are very proud of that,” she said.

“The reunion and dinner dance is just one way in which everyone involved, now and then, can come together to reminisce and catch up and celebrate that history as well as the modern facility we have now and the health services we deliver today.”

Fellow organiser, Karen Kemp, said many former staff members had already contacted the organising committee for tickets.

“It is for all past and present staff, and it is not just for the nurses, but all staff,” Ms Kemp said.

“Lots of staff are saying they are not going because they thought it was for the older staff but it is for the current staff as well.

“We are not looking at raising any money but if there is some left we will put it back into the hospital,” she said.

Tickets to the dinner dance are available from Jan Pearce on 0438 883 904, Karen Kemp 0417 418 005, Geraldine Casey 0408 840 650 and Jane Craker at JCraker@gwahs.health.nsw.gov.au or at the Tydvil Hotel.

The tickets will be available up to June 29 or until sold out.
