Taekwon-do pair honoured by MP

Friday, 10th April, 2009

Taekwon-do students Ashley Clogg and Oliver Kolinac have won awards for their contribution to the sport. In front of their peers at a ceremony on Wednesday, they were presented with certificates by Federal Member for Farrer, Sussan Ley. Ms Ley, who has a green belt in judo, said it was marvellous to see that martial arts were still popular. "It's really important for girls to do this, too," she said.

"It develops self confidence and a feeling that you are in control of a situation." Ashley, who has Down Syndrome, has been practicing for eight years and aims to be a black belt. Speaking on behalf of Ashley, his mum Vicki Clogg said he would think the award was great. "He trains two times per week and loves it," Ms Clogg said.

"He clings to Oliver as they're in the same year at school."
