Pancake day goes down a treat

Wednesday, 25th March, 2009

Vegemite sandwiches were out and delicious pancakes were in at Sacred Heart Parish Primary School yesterday.

Students made a donation in return for pancakes as the student body embraced pancake day to raise money for those less fortunate than themselves.

Teacher Marie Johnson said the money would go to Project Compassion, which provides children living in poverty with essentials like fresh food and clothes. Miss Johnson said the school children were more than happy to be offered the pancakes, which were served with jam, cream or maple syrup, for a change from their usual packed lunches. The event was supported by the school's Student Representative Council (SRC) and a number of parents who helped cook the tasty treats. The school is also planning a number of other fundraisers during Lent. The Uniting Church also hosted a pancake day yesterday for its UnitingCare charity.
