School goes back tomorrow for most students but next week there will be many nervous parents saying goodbye to their children on their first day of school proper.

Karen Chrisakis has three daughters and her youngest, Demi, will start kindergarten at Morgan Street Public School, although she still has to wait until next Monday.

"She's very excited. Demi has got little friends from preschool that are going to Morgan Street," Mrs Chrisakis said.

"She is my last child going to school. I've got one in Year 11, and one starting Year 7 as well.

"So it will be a big year for all three of my children.

"I think I will be a bit emotional on the day."

Demi starts kindergarten on February 11 but has to go into school on February 7 for a test.

"My other girls go back to school on Wednesday," Mrs Chrisakis said.

Teachers and school staff return today for a School Development Day and tomorrow all primary school students and secondary students in Years 7, 11 and 12 will return to school.

On Thursday, kindergarten students will have the individual Best Start test and then starts school on February 11, and students in Years 8 to 10 will also resume school then.
