Long-standing records were smashed and Murray toppled Darling at Railway Town Primary School's swimming carnival yesterday.
Gloomy overcast skies hovered over the Regional Aquatic Centre, threatening to put a dampener on what promised to be a sunny day in the water.
But as the temperature rose, so did the activity in the pool where seven records were broken, said teacher Rachel Ricketts.
Some of the them stood for more than five years, Ms Ricketts said.
She said the level of sportsmanship had been "absolutely incredible" and there was a buzz of "school spirit" in the air.
It wasn't such a good day for Darling team members though. They were trounced by Murray, 205 to 171.
