Central demolish West
Monday, 11th March, 2013
Central have won the local A-grade grandfinal with relative ease after doing a demolition job on the Robins over the weekend.
With West electing to bat first, at the Alma Oval, they were skittled for just 72 runs and in replay Central lost three wickets in chasing down the runs in 15 overs. A dominant seven wicket victory.
Central were on top all day and with the dangerous Handberg dismissed in the second over, what was to follow was beyond belief.
Ten runs later both Jelbert and Herath were sent packing, Henry was superbly caught at first slip by Jardine, then both Attard and Malthouse fell for zero and West were reeling at 6/38.
The game was just about over.
Further damage was done with Everuss and Caldwell falling cheaply to Justin Heath and the Central champ had the brilliant figures of 5/12 from nine overs in what was an inspirational spell of bowling.
West Captain and top scorer Nick Christos was bowled by O'Mally for 32 with Rosenbaum chipping in but then West were bowled out for 72.
With the Magpies on a high they then proceeded to score at 5 runs an over and West were simply pulverised from pillar to post.
They lost Hywood and Jardine cheaply but the aggressive Wells put the game within Central's reach with a polished 25 runs, Justin Heath's dream run continued as he complied 19 n/o as Central passed West's score in the 15th over.
Heath was given the man of the match award.
Central could not have been more impressive on the day whilst West were shattered after having a fantastic season but were simply outplayed on the day.
