Former local Dax Wasely will represent Australia at the World Eight Ball Championship in England later this year, and he's returning to the Silver City to put his world-class skills on display.
Dax will return later this month to play an exhibition match, and he has also helped organise another local match involving world champion, Mick "The Machine" Hill.
Dax will be part of a 10-man team competing against 17 other countries in the open teams category of the championships in the northwest city of Blackpool from June 23.
The 29-year-old - a former SA Under 21 champion who moved to Kalgoorlie in 2008 - gives the Aussie team an outside chance of winning the title for the first time in 17 years.
Playing for WA, he won 10 of 12 games at the October titles, including 10 straight games and three of four games in the grand final, which Victoria narrowly won.
Local eight ball player Gerard Lehmann said locals have banded together to help raise funds for Dax.
"We heard he was coming here over Easter and we thought it would be a good opportunity to put on an exhibition match," Gerard said.
A team of 21 players has been selected to play Dax in the exhibition match.
"Anyone who wants to come out and watch him play can," he said.
"We have a variety of players - top players, women and kids.
"We will also be having a sausage sizzle."
Gerard said Dax would draw an eight ball association raffle over the weekend.
"There are meat and seafood vouchers, a dinner for two at the Junction and a wheel alignment to be won," he said.
According to Gerard, the town's eight ball fraternity is buzzing with excitement.
"To see a local guy make it in the Australian side is amazing," he said.
Dax has also organised to have Mick "the Machine" Hill in the city the weekend before Easter.
"Mick is the winner of 10 world pool titles," Gerard said.
"He will be playing some exhibition matches on March 22 at the Northern Hotel and March 23 at the Rising Sun Hotel."
Gerard said having Mick Hill visit was the biggest thing since snooker player Eddie Charlton visited in 1994.
Mick Hill's exhibition matches will start from 7pm Friday and Saturday night. Dax Wasley's exhibition match will be at the Rising Sun Hotel on March 30 from 12pm.
