A supermarket is hosting a fundraiser this weekend for the Silverlea Early Intervention Centre.
The Southside shopping centre, Coles, is having a cake stall and barbecue tomorrow and store manager, Heath Netherwood, said the staff had been working since the start of the financial year to raise money for Silverlea.
"We helped to raise funds for their upgrades to the playground," Mr Netherwood said.
"It is something Silverlea need. I think they get forgotten about.
"We want to help them as much as we can." Mr Netherwood said they had donated $2,000 so far.
"We have also donated our time to working bees. The next project for Silverlea is a pergola," he said.
"The cake stall will raise money for this. We have had a good response from the public who have offered to bake, along with our staff.
"People are also donating money for ingredients." Mr Netherwood said they also developed a Facebook page to get the information out.
"We've had a great response on that and it is only a week old," he said.
"It shows the community is eager to support one another.
"I think Silverlea is a service that we couldn't live without."
Mr Netherwood said he wants to raise awareness as well as funds for the Intervention Centre.
"It would be nice to be able to raise all the money we need, which is about $3,500. It's a really good event for Silverlea.
"A couple of staff members are taking annual leave to get all the baking done.
"It's been successful so far and is something we are proud of."
The fundraiser starts at 9am in the Coles car park. There will be a cake stall, sausage sizzle, drinks and coffee. For more information phone Coles on 8087 2317.
