Both South Broken Hill Roos exports Tom Derham and Marc "Nugget" Purcell have been selected in the South Australian Country side to take on their city counterparts in the seventh annual City verses Country match.
The pair won selection after being picked in the SA "team of the carnival" at the statewide country championships in Berri in late June and early July last year.
This game is a curtain raiser to the season opening Adelaide Crows - Essendon encounter tonight.
Derham, also a noted cricketer, has just returned from a game with the South Australian Futures League team in Perth, where he bowled at stages through all four days of the event.
"I've had very little preparation footy wise, it's been all cricket," Derham told the Barrier Daily Truth.
"All I've done is just have a couple of kicks with my house mates in the park.
"Playing in Wagga at the Australian country champs last July was the best standard of footy I've even played.
"For a young bloke, you can't get much better experience than that.
"Steve Hill (the SA Country coach in this match) said I may get opportunities to play up forward in this game.
"I'm playing with Langhorne Creek again this year under Anthony Murgatroyd."
Derham along with another Broken Hill export Lachlan McGregor were members of the Hawks 2012 triumph in the great Southern League.
Purcell told the BDT he was keen to play, but had commitment with the Sturt Football Club on the same evening.
