A trading card game has picked up popularity in the city and is being played at a local video rental store.

People of all ages are going to Video Ezy on a regular basis, but not to rent movies.

They are going to play "Magic: The Gathering game". This game the world's premier trading card game. It was the first of its kind, and it's still the biggest.

In the Magic game, people play the role of a "planes walker" - a powerful wizard who fights other planes walkers for glory, knowledge, and
conquest. Those who play have a deck of cards which represents all the weapons in their arsenal.

The best part about a trading card game is that it's always changing.

Those who play design and build unique decks, and each Magic game played is different.

Manager of Video Ezy, Kyle Vierow said it all started when someone asked him to stock the cards for the game.

"We go the cards in and then we were asked to set up trestle where people could play," he said.

"Every Friday night is a competition night and last week we had about 60 people. We had so many they were sitting on the floor and playing the game."

Mr Vierow said about 20 people new to the game are turning up each week.

"We've decided to hold a beginner's night on Thursday night," he said.

"Those who want to learn can come and play. It gets really competitive."

He said originally it started with a couple of people coming and every week more and more turn up.

"I think people were playing on their own, but now they are getting together and it is more of a social thing," he said.

Mr Vierow opens up the video store at no extra cost.

"Everyone who attends are happy to sit and be social," he said.

"They are also willing to teach new people."

He said the game is played by millions all across the world.

One participant Alessando Licul said it was good to have somewhere to play the game.

"It is good to be able to hang out and play the game," Alessando said.
