Crash driver drunk: police
Monday, 6th May, 2013
Police will charge a 20-year-old man with driving offences after they found him passed out a block away from a damaged car on Saturday night.
The police had responded to complaints about an erratic driver about 11pm and found a White Mitsubishi Lancer abandoned at the corner of Wyman and Bromide streets.
The vehicle had extensive front-end damage: the front bumper bar had been ripped off and a front tyre had blown.
About the same time, police received information about a man asleep at the corner of Cummins Lane and Kaolin Street.
Police found the 20-year-old man at the intersection and when they woke him, they found out he was intoxicated.
Police said the man then admitted to being the driver of the damaged car.
The man did not own the car, but the actual owner knew he had it, police said.
In a separate incident, an unknown offender broke into a Ryan Street house, stole the keys to a Pajero, rolled it out onto the road, and then drove off early Saturday morning.
The vehicle was later found about 6.45am burnt out near the sewage treatment plant at the end of Wills Street.
A woman and three children were at home at the time of the theft.
