Susan Thomas' hard work and dedication to the hospital has been recognised by her peers after she was named Nurse of the Year.
The Far West Local Health District acknowledged the exceptional performance of its nursing staff by presenting Nurse of the Year, New Nurse Graduate of the Year and Nursing Team of the Year awards yesterday.
The awards were presented as part of International Nurses Day (IND) celebrations.
Ms Thomas was presented with her award by Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Dale Sutton.
"Susan is exceptional in her dedication to nursing. She is caring, willing to share her knowledge, provides a high standard of nursing care and is a champion in her role as nurse," said Ms Sutton.
"Susan promotes and implements best practice for the patients and amongst the staff. She is a positive role model for the junior staff and an important member of the Emergency Department team."
A tearful Ms Thomas accepted the award, and thanked all her colleagues for their help and support.
"This is totally unexpected, it's just amazing," she said.
"I just want to say thanks to everyone who nominated me... I love my job.
"I love working in the emergency department and try and get involved on as many levels as I can."
The Far West LHD Nursing Team of the Year award was won by the Operating Theatre team, and the New Nurse Graduate of the Year award went to Elyce Green.
Last week also saw Midwife of the Year awarded to Emma Howard.
Ms Sutton said congratulated all the award recipients on their work.
"It is well deserved recognition for their commitment to providing quality service and care to our patients."
