A Queensland man allegedly caught with more than 12 kilograms of cannabis has been refused bail in the Local Court.
The stash was found in a car that was stopped on the Adelaide road heading towards Broken Hill on Wednesday morning, police said yesterday.
They said 12.5kg of the drug was in 22 heat-sealed bags and that they had also seized $3966 in cash that they suspected was obtained from drug sales.
William Lucas Waring (44), of Chevron Island, was arrested and held in custody until yesterday morning when he faced court charged with possessing and supplying a prohibited drug, and dealing with the proceeds of crime.
Police told the court that the potential value of the cannabis was $88,000 and they asked the magistrate to refuse bail to Mr Waring on the grounds that he was facing a possible jail term and might flee.
Mr Waring did not apply for bail and it was formally refused. He is due in court again on June 18.
Also on Wednesday police stopped a 23-year-old local man’s vehicle in Wolfram Street about 9pm and allegedly discovered about 1.7 grams of methamphetamine. He has been charged with possessing a prohibited drug.
