Ex-BH doctor deregistered
Tuesday, 28th May, 2013
The NSW Medical Tribunal has cancelled the registration of a former local doctor who was charged with indecently assaulting 12 boys.
John Phillip Rolleston, 74, was released from jail earlier this year after serving a two-year sentence for 17 counts of indecently assaulting the boys at a private practice in Sydney between 1975 and 1981.
Dr Rolleston worked in Broken Hill for almost 20 years from the early 1990s.
Conditions were placed on his registration after he was charged with the offences in 2009.
These included a ban on seeing patients aged 11 to 18 years and restrictions on those aged 10 and under.
In 2010 his registration was suspended after it was found he breached the conditions on a number of occasions.
On May 17, the Tribunal found that Dr Rolleston had been convicted of criminal offences, engaged in misconduct and was not a suitable person to be registered as a medical practitioner.
He is banned from reapplying to be re-registered for a minimum of four years and is unable to supply any form of health service.
