Tournament targets youth
Friday, 9th April, 2010
An international sporting sensation will be starting in the city soon.
It's Midnight Basketball and is aimed at girls and boys aged 12-18 years. A new tournament will begin here on April 23 and run on Friday nights from 7.30pm to midnight at the Sanderson Stadium until June 11. Dinner and transport are included and registration is free.
Organisers say the sporting program is designed to help young people identify and embrace positive opportunities. Tournament manager Erin Seward is currently seeking the support of volunteers who could help out during the program.
Ms Seward has attended the Australian Institute of Sport and played in the Women's National Basketball League with Adelaide Lightning. She said she was eager to see lots of young people join up and a "few people had shown interest already".
The local tournament will be funded by Midnight Basketball Australia. Anyone interested in the tournament can go online to www.midnightbasketball.org.au/Broken Hill or contact Erin Seward on 0447141970.
