As part of its talent search the South Australian Cricket Association will be conducting the Les Favell Talent Identification programs across regional South Australia, including Broken Hill during July and August.

On Friday July 12 at Willyama High School there will be a 90-minute training session (9.30 to 11.00am) followed by a coach and player information session for the following 30 minutes.

Former Australian one-day cricketer from the 1980s and the youngest cricketer in South Australian bowling history to take 100 first class wickets, Andrew Zesers will be in charge of this day.

This will be the second of six talent identification training sessions, providing outstanding cricketers, both male and female, with the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of SACA’s High Performance coaches.

At each of the sessions, the High Performance coaching team will be accompanied by some of South Australia’s top-ranked cricketers will also travel to Port Lincoln, Jamestown, Murray Bridge, Renmark and Mount Gambier in an effort to find future stars of the game. The SACA’s three Country Cricket Development Officers will also be on hand to assist with the sessions.

The sessions will be intensive, designed to test a selected group of players who have been nominated by their associations as having the potential to compete at the highest level and represent South Australia in their age level.

SACA Director of Cricket, Jamie Cox, said it is important that specialised coaching was made available to regional cricketers, to ensure South Australia continues to develop its talent base.

“The Les Favell Talent Identification Program ensures that SACA gives every opportunity to young players, boys and girls, to be able to take their cricket to the next step,” Cox said.

“These sessions expose young cricketers in regional areas to SACA’s High Performance system and the possibility of playing cricket at an elite level.”

SACA’s High Performance coaches will conduct a coach and player information session that is open to all members of the community.
