Milton Hawke and Peter Pipworth have continued their dominance over the State indoor bowling scene, with a big win at the SA State Men’s Pairs tournament in Adelaide.

Hawke and Victor Harbour-based Pipworth won their opening three rounds of the weekend tournament to secure a grand final showdown with star Adelaide duo Peter Kitchen and Les Blakeley.

Kitchen and Blakeley are members of the reigning fours National team, and loomed as imposing opponents.

“We were in with some very tough competition ... they are very highly accredited players,” said Hawke.

Despite the impressive opposition, Hawke and Pipworth triumphed with an emphatic 22-14 victory.

The win marked the pair’s 21st consecutive doubles victory, and brought up their third State title in as many years.

Hawke said he hoped to see the partnership continue to bring success well into the future.

“Peter’s a fantastic guy, he loves his bowls and takes it very seriously and can get a bit upset if he puts in a bad effort,” laughed Hawke.

“But we’re both very competitive, we know we need to do, and we put in a lot of practice.

“I always say ‘practice makes perfect’, but nobody’s perfect so you just have to put in the hard yards to try and achieve your goals.”

Hawke will now begin preparing for the National pairs titles which will be held in Toowoomba in August.
