Elderly man left hanging

An elderly man in dire need of a kidney operation has been left in limbo after he was refused a hotel room in Adelaide.
Argent Street man Peter Connelley suffers from polyps on the kidneys and needs an operation. Polyps are extra tissue that form on the inside of the body. If not removed they can become cancerous.
He had already paid $200 for a flight to Adelaide but when he called Hotels.com to book a room at the Grand Chifley Hotel on South Terrace his plans hit a snag.
“They asked me when I wanted to book and I said on the 24th of July and he asked when I was exiting.
“I said I can’t give you that until I see the doctor and he said, bluntly, “We can’t give you a room because you don’t know when you’re leaving.”
Driving doesn’t come easy to Mr Connelly either; he has two bad knees and needs the aid of a walking stick to move around.
“I’ll probably ring up the caravan park at Mitcham and book a cabin out there but I’ve got all that long distance travel in and out.”
A spokesman for the Grand Chifley Hotel said if Mr Connelley had called them directly for a room he would have got one.
“We have a lot of people in that position so, no, we don’t refuse people a room if they don’t know their departure date.”
Hotels.com was contacted for comment.
