The city’s streets will get a dash of 60’s style next month during a visit from the R and S Chrysler Valiant Car Club of Victoria.
The Club is bringing 13 cars to the city during their trip, including the R Series, S Series, Q Series and Dodge Lancer.
The Valiant hit Australian markets in 1962 with the R-Series and quickly captured the imagination of drivers with its dramatic styling and powerful performance.
It continues to hold its influence over many motorists to this day according to Valiant Car Club Secretary, Geoff Sarkies.
“Everyone has a passion for a car and our particular passion happens to be the Valiant ... It surprised Australia and we really took to it,” he said.
“We like the shape - they have a very unique style, and as a result I guess we like to promote their preservation.
“We’d encourage people who have these models to get them on the road and join the clubs in their state, and let people know they’re still around.”
The motorcade will arrive in the city around midday on August 16, and cars will be on display at the Crystal Motel.
The club will also join with the Broken Hill Veteran and Vintage Car Club on August 18 for a joint tour of Silverton.
