Young netballers from across the State will hit the courts today in Broken Hill for the annual NSW PSSA Championships.

More than 140 teams from 14 regions will contest the championships over three days at the O’Neill Park Sporting Complex in Wolfram Street.

It is the first time in 28 years that the city has hosted the event.

Carnival organiser Ruby Church said while the Broken Hill girls will put up a good showing, the visiting teams were a cut above.

“We don’t rate against these girls,” Ms Church said.

“The other teams are very strong. These kids only play one sport where Broken Hill kids play a variety of sports.

“These kids live and breathe netball.”

But the carnival will give the visitors an idea of how far the Broken Hill side has to travel each year for the competitions.

The championships begin at 8:30am with an opening ceremony. Games will then start at 9:30am today, 9am tomorrow and 8:30 on Thursday.
