Local artists on display
Friday, 16th April, 2010
Local artists are taking the stage at the BH Regional Art Gallery. The gallery is opening three new exhibitions by prominent artists tonight. Local artist and teacher Rick Ball will present an array of recent paintings, drawings and sculpture in his new exhibition, The Simple Difficulty.
Rick specialises in creating strong images of the human spirit within the land. Working from his outback studio, he has 35 years of experience as an innovative artist and art teacher to many cultures and sub-cultures in Australia and has held many major art exhibitions country-wide, as well as in Europe, Asia and New York. Deirdre Edwards is a prolific and active painter and printmaker. Her new exhibition“Paparazzi in Print” is a series of photopolymer reliefs and etchings representative of women who have made a significant contribution to the culture of the city and region.
“Many times I have been inspired by exploring either new territory, browsing over old sketches to relive the moment or revisiting places I have been before. “Going back to a place stirs old memories and releases new inspiration, often finding new objects of interest not seen or noticed before,” Ms Edwards said. Also on display will be an important selection of works from the permanent collection.
This selection of drawings, prints and paintings reflects the importance of the city’s industrial and pastoral heritage. The Simple Difficulty will be officially opened byClark Barrett and Deirdre Edwards’ exhibition will be opened by guest, Jane Andrews. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome to the 6.30pm opening. Both exhibitions will be on display from Saturday until May 30.
