Police are treating a fire which destroyed a vacant house at the weekend as deliberate.

Police, ambulance officers and firefighters from the central and South fire stations were called to the Lane Street address on Saturday morning.

By the time they arrived, the house was already ablaze and its owners were not present.

Broken Hill Fire Station Officer Steve Evans said that firefighters were alerted at 8am.

“We received a triple zero call and were called to the house,” he said.

“The house has been totally destroyed and was very alight when we arrived.

“It took about 30 minutes to get under control and we spent some time afterwards cleaning up.

“Firefighters worked diligently in putting the fire out.”

Police have contacted the owners and are continuing investigations into the matter.
