It’s not often you get a Ninja Turtle, a spider and a dancing mouse all in the same room but that’s what happened at Alma Public School yesterday.
Books burst into life at the South school yesterday when hundreds of students donned the outfits of their favourite storybook characters for Book Week, which ends today.
Pupils started the day reading with parents, grandparents and friends in class before heading to an ever-popular sausage sizzle before lunch.
Excited youngsters then took part in a parade to show off their outfits. Scooby Doo was spotted walking the halls and Red Riding Hood spotted with a few treats in her basket.
Teacher Sharon Degoumois - dressed as the old woman who lived in a shoe - said the week was “very important” to kids hitting the books.
Book Week is the longest running children’s festival in Australia, celebrating its 65th anniversary this year.
Breanna Everett, 5, donned her best Bananas in Pyjamas outfit for the day. When asked why she chose the attire, she replied: “because my mumma made me.”
