Junior Giants step up

A handful of junior Giants got a taste of the big time recently at the 2013 NSW Joss Zone Football Championships in Albury.
The under 13 and under 14 boys were selected from the local Greater Western Sydney Giants Academy program to represent Murray against nine other regional teams from around NSW.
The under 14 team lost just one match at the carnival to finish second overall, while the under 13 boys battled hard to finish in eighth position.
Under 14 coach, Brent Fennessy, said the step up in class would do wonders for the boys’ football development.
“The aim of the week was to offer the boys a chance to gauge themselves against the best and analyse what they need to do in their own game to continue their journey in representative footy, “ said Mr Fennessey.
“The carnival offered the boys a fantastic opportunity not only to play against the best players from around the State, but also gave them access to coaches and many motivational speakers including former AFL players Mark McVeigh (Essendon) and Amon Buchanan (Sydney, Brisbane).
“I was impressed at just how well the boys from Broken Hill contributed to both teams’ on and off field activities.”
