The Broken Hill Community Foundation aims to raise $2 million, with the interest made going towards helping sustain the city.
"We have achieved the first stage target towards our goal of building a Capital Fund to a sufficient size that will provide enough interest on an annual basis to make a significant contribution to Broken Hill's sustainability," said the Foundation's chairman, Vince Gauci. The BHCF has at present donations totalling $1 million, and was looking for more donations to reach their target, Mr Gauci said. He said that $2 million would mean the Broken Hill community would receive up to $200,000 in grants each year. Already, Tri State Safaris has been chosen to receive some of the grant, helping the business owners showcase Broken Hill in Los Angeles at a Travel Agent workshop, which brought bookings and American agents to the city.
