Say hello to my little friend

Tuesday, 22nd October, 2013

As if people needed more reminding that it’s snake season, a Crystal Street resident has been greeted by one on his front verandah.

Joe Calleia had just returned home from a morning walk when he spotted the slithering reptile on his verandah and heading for the house.

Fears the snake would get inside did not eventuate but when Mr Calleia saw the 1.2 metre Brown heading up his driveway, he didn’t want to give it another chance.

“I’ve been here 50 years and this is the first time I’ve seen one,” said Mr Calleia, who suspected the snake came from the railway yard across the road.

Earlier this month snake catcher Wayne Singleton said there had been an increase in snake sightings due to the warmer weather.

He warned people not to approach the animals who were coming out of their winter hibernation and in search of mates and food.

Anyone who sees a snake can contact Mr Singleton on 0423 920 370.
