Big day for grandparents
Wednesday, 23rd October, 2013
Grandparents Day is on Sunday, giving people a chance to spoil older members of their family.
In 2011 the State Government chose to recognise the contributions that grandparents make by launching Grandparents Day.
Each year, Grandparents Day will be celebrated in NSW on the last Sunday of October.
Grandparents Day acknowledges the vital role that grandparents play in our society.
Local mother, Kayelene Crossing said her son Jackson adores his grandfather Peter.
“I think Grandparents Day is good to take a day out to recognise grandparents,” Kayelene said.
“All the support dad gives us is really appreciated, it’s good to know his good habits are being picked up by Jackson”.
Kayelene said she was planning something special for her dad over the weekend.
Peter Crossing, a grandfather of two, said it was important to have an influence in children’s lives.
“Extended family support is important, especially with parents doing a lot of shift work these days,” he said.
“Grandparents are important to have in little ones’ lives.”
