Silverlea's golden celebration
Monday, 3rd May, 2010
The Silverlea group of disability services is celebrating 50 years of commitment to Broken Hill this year.
To celebrate the occasion, events will be held throughout the year. A committee has been formed to organise the events and the first fundraiser will be held in conjunction with the annual Picton Plants Mothers Day flower sale on Satuday, May 8. A monster garage sale will be held on the day as well as a cake stall with all proceeds going towards the 50th anniversay celebrations. Donations of articles for the garage sale will be gratefully accepted over the next few weeks and can be dropped off at Picton Plants or you may phone for pickup. Articles of any quantity or size will be accepted, within reason. During the weekend of August 7 and 8, a gala black tie dinner dance is being planned for the Saturday to give the entire community the opportunity to be involved and help Silverlea celebrate their anniversary. The night will have a professionally catered dinner, entertainment by a renowned magician/comedian, dancing to a top local band, awards, an auction and prizes for the best dressed in the gold and maroon theme which are Silverlea's colours. The event offers a great chance to dress up and enjoy a great night of entertainment. The Sunday has been set aside for a re-union for everyone who has been involved with Silverlea. It is envisaged that this could attract people from far and wide who have been involved over the years. Interest has already been shown by ex-locals as far away as Melbourne.
