Paull punishes West

Central skipper Jarred Paull took his impressive early season form to another level on the weekend, smashing 147 to help his side topple West by 182 runs.
His knock featured seventeen fours and seven sixes and came at a time when his team needed it most.
Missing a number of key batsmen from their top order, Central were in a spot of bother at 4/40 after three early wickets to Robins’ seamer Scott Withers
However, the match turned when Puall strode to the crease.
In warm conditions, he combined with Justin Heath for a fifth wicket stand of 230 to break the back of the West bowling line-up.
Heath eventually fell to Jay Nankivell on 84 and was shortly followed by Paull a mere three runs short of the 150 mark milestone.
Some lusty lower order blows pushed the total to an imposing 6/323 at the end of the 45 overs.
Needing to score at 7.18 runs per over to successfully chase the target, West faced an uphill battle from the moment openers Andrew Henry and Max Everuss hen stepped to the crease for West.
The Robins’ task was made even more difficult when skipper Henry departed for 4 after being caught by Paul Rosenbaum off the bowling of David O’Malley.
O’Malley struck again to remove number three Matthew Handberg for just nine runs to leave West reeling at 2/15.
They slumped to 5/55 before a 46 run stand between Curtis Jelbert and Liam King gave respectability to the scorecard.
But the introductive of Rosenbaum to the attack sparked a flurry of wickets ñ the high school teacher dismissed Curtis Jelbert and then took the wickets of Callum Roserwarn and Nankivell to finish with figures of 3/8 off three overs.
To cap off a stellar afternoon, Paull then sealed the deal with the final two scalps inducing top scorer King, who finished on 57.
Central meet North at Jubilee Oval next Saturday, while West will be hoping to regroup against South at Alma Oval.
Both matches start at 12:30pm.
Central 6/323 (Paull 147, Heath 82, Steele 22; Withers 3/50, Wilson 2/20) defeated West 141 all out (King 57, Jelbert 24; Rosenbaum 3/8, O’Mally 3/37, Paull 2/2) by 182 runs at Alma Oval
