Youngster Lydia Hinton-Neal has qualified for the South Australian Country competition following an exceptional performance at the Marion
Swimming Carnival last weekend in Adelaide.
The nine-year-old from the Silver City Swim Club recorded qualifying times in both the 50 metre and 100m breaststroke events in the Under 11 age category.
She also achieved two Gold Australian Junior Excellence levels as well as three personal best times.
Her times for the JX events were 37.72 seconds in the 50m freestyle and 50.13 seconds in the 50m breaststroke.
Lydia nearly claimed a hat-trick of gold medals, missing out on top honours in the 50m backstroke by just 1.44 seconds.
She was the only Broken Hill local swimming at the meet and finished as the fastest nine-year-old in three races despite often swimming against girls three years her senior.
Lydia’s next challenge is the Silver City Swim Club carnival which will be held in Broken Hill on November 23 and 24.
“The team has been training extremely hard and looking forward to the opportunity to establish Country, State and National qualifying times at the competition,” Publicity Officer Angela Oldsen said.
A total of 31 swimmers will be looking to gain qualification for larger competitions at the event.
