The local Coles has won recognition as SA’s Team of the Year and they are looking forward to bringing in more staff.

Store manager Heath Netherwood said they were judged on engagement with staff and involvement with the community.

He said it was based on a survey of the staff.

“It gives them a chance to tell us what they are happy with or not happy with,” he said.

“Our community involvement is something I am very proud of.

“We held fundraisers all throughout the year for Silverlea Early Intervention Centre.

“We did things like have cake stalls, working bees and did the Million Steps challenge.”

Mr Netherwood said it was this community involvement that put them above other stores.

“We were also assessed on our safety, which is number one in the nation,” he said.

Mr Netherwood said the development of the new shopping centre meant more staff for the team.

“With the Broken Hill Village Shopping Centre, hundreds of retail jobs will be on offer.

“Over 100 new jobs will be offered at the new Coles store which will add to the 32 staff we have now.”

Mr Netherwood said the new development was running to schedule and was expected to open in April.
