Hospital boss to grin and wear it
Tuesday, 19th November, 2013
The creativity of hospital staff will be put to the test this month as they aim to create a bold new look for general manager Nigel Carlton.
Mr Carlton has put his beard up for auction to the highest bidder. The winner may groom it in whatever style they wish, with all money raised going to men’s health.
Proceeds will go to the “Broken Hill Boys” team who are participating in Movember.
Mr Carlton admitted he was putting his trademark facial hair on the line.
“I usually keep a goatee and I’m pretty fastidious about keeping it all neat and tidy,” he said.
“I’m trusting the highest bidder will be stylishly creative but not too creative!
“Just as long as it’s not anything that makes me look like Shannon Noll,” he laughed.
“Saying that, this is for a good cause to raise money for men’s health and I’m prepared to wear it - literally.”
The Broken Hill Boys team leader Luke McDonald said it was great that the hospital’s general manager came on board to offer himself to be at the mercy of the highest bidder.
“Mr Carlton’s support is very appreciated and I hope staff and the public can get behind this fundraising event and make a valuable contribution to men’s health,” he said.
The auction will be silent with bids to be dropped into a box at the hospital’s reception desk.
The ‘shave off’ will be held in the Hospital foyer on Tuesday, 26 November at lunchtime when a barbecue will be held as part of the fundraiser.
