Get organised and stay safe throughout the new year with a free calendar from the Broken Hill Community Safety Precinct Committee (BHCSPC).
The idea for a local calendar was kicked off by Barrier LAC Crime Prevention Officer Karina Dawson, who saw the calendars being effectively used in other commands.
It was funded by Club Grants and Broken Hill City Council, and features a range of handy crime prevention and safety tips that correspond with the months throughout the year.
For example alcohol safety tips appear above celebratory long weekends, and home security reminders and road safety information are paired with holiday periods.
“It’s a 12 month reference guide that can be utilised by people to keep their homes and themselves safe throughout the year,” said Barrier LAC Crime Manager, Mick Stoltenberg.
The BHCSPC, which comprises members from police and a variety of government and non-government agencies, focuses on working together to ensure Broken Hill is safe for people of all ages.
The calendar is part of the committee’s support of the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan 2013-17, which aims to empower people through awareness and education.
The free calendars will be available today, and can be picked up from newsagents, the HACC Centre (corner Wills and Gypsum streets), the library and police station.
The calendar is also being distributed through local schools, and a stall will be set up at the plaza on November 30 for shoppers to pick one up.
