Hot contest tipped at Alma

Deserving the billing as the best game of the season, undefeated Central take on West at the Alma Oval today in a 45 over contest that promises a mountain of runs and fluctuating fortunes throughout the entire length of the game.
Both sides amassed over 500 runs between them in their last 45 over contest at this venue and with another Alma Oval ‘flat deck’ assured today the bat again seems set to dominate the ball once more.
Jarred Paull made 147 runs in this game and along with Justin Heath feasted on some wayward West bowling.
I am sure that the Robins would like to think that their bowling has improved since then while the Magpies will be looking to get a few more runs out of the likes of Steele, Wells and Jardine in this contest.
The West batting has certainly been on the rise since their last encounter with Central.
Everuss compiled a stylish maiden century last weekend while McQuillan, Handberg and Jelbert have all registered useful contributions since that occasion.
Henry only needs to reproduce some of last season’s form to round out what promises to be a good West batting effort.
I still suspect the West bowling attack lacks some penetration against good batting on a flat wicket. The Robins may not admit it but, Nick
Christos’s medium pace and guile is certainly being missed while he languishes in B Grade.
Central, on the other hand, has probably improved its bowling options since they last met West with Paul Rosenbaum back in the side providing variety with his left arm medium pace seamers and Justin Heath now back having a trundle.
Both these two players were the heroes in Central’s win over West in last
An edge in variety and bowling options may swing this game in favour of Central but I don’t think there will be much separating the two sides in the final analysis.
The Magpies might keep their unbeaten run this season intact by the skin of their teeth in what seems likely to be a great contest.
