The Broken Hill Pony Club is hosting a fundraiser today to help one of its instructors ride for Australia.
Since the start of the year Andrew Rodaughan has been teaching at the Pony Club and next month he is off to South Africa to represent Australia in the Mounted Games Southern Hemisphere Championship 2013.
Pony Club Fundraising committee member, Kayelene Crossing, said the news of Andrew riding for Australia had bought much excitement to the club.
“We are lucky enough to have Andrew as one of our Pony Club instructors here in Broken Hill this year and next year and hopefully many more,” she said.
“Andrew has been involved with the club since the start of the year. He has brought many of his great talents to the club, helping the young and young at heart riders, taking on the chief instructor’s role, and teaching us a thing or two about the mounted games sport.”
Mounted games is a series of fast races on horseback that is known to be thrill-seeking for participants and spectators alike.
They require a high degree of athletic ability, good riding skills, hand-eye coordination, general determination and a competitive spirit.
“Broken Hill Pony Club is supporting Andrew as he makes his way to South Africa,” Kayelene said.
“To help raise funds for flights, uniform, accommodation and the hiring of a South African horse for competition, the local Pony Club is hosting a sausage sizzle at Woolworths (today).
“We’re hoping the rest of the community will help us supporting Andrew, buy a sausage or two, and get this young star over there to represent not only Australia but Broken Hill.”
