Men taking part in Movember have been challenged to face the facts about testicular cancer at a health seminar tomorrow.
Far West Cancer Services will be holding an education event titled “Lumps, Bumps and Balls”.
The event will provide valuable information for both men and women in sessions covering topics including cervical cancer, testicular cancer, Lymphoma, breast awareness for men and women as well as chlamydia, contraception and skin cancer awareness.
Guest speakers include Dr Simon Rathray (gynaecologist, FWLHD), Dr Andrew Crossman (GP), Breast Cancer Nurse Jo Beven (RFDS), Sexual Health Nurse Joanne Lenton (FLWHD) and Michelle Powell from the Leukaemia Foundation.
Cancer Care coordinator Sandra Turley said she would like to see all the men taking part in Movember - and their partners - in attendance.
“It’s a challenge to the guys doing Movember to come along and learn about men’s health and see what they’re raising money for and to raise awareness,” said Ms Turley.
“The session on testicular cancer awareness is particularly important for men in the age group 18-35.The session on Lymphoma awareness is also of significance as the peak age for diagnosis of Non Hodgkin Lymphoma is between the ages of 15-30.”
The importance of regular PAP smears will also be highlighted and is particularly important for the younger generation even though they have had the Gardasil vaccination.
“The information provided will be informative, the sessions will be interactive and the opportunity to ask questions on a one to one basis is unique,” said Mrs Turley.
Information booths will be set up and members of the public will have the opportunity to ask questions on a one-to-one basis on any of the above topics. A light supper will be provided.
Registration is required for catering purposes. Please contact Sandra Turley on 0427 064 367 or 8080 1197 to register.
