With 2013 at an end, many people will be on the lookout for the new fashion trends.

Torpy’s Store Manager Kellie Jenkin said they will be getting a lot of new stock in February for the new season.

“At the moment we are getting in a lot of new runners from Asics and Nike in a lot of new colours,” Kellie said.

“Nike have also come out with the barefoot running shoe concept. I think brands are picking up on that. It makes the shoes a lot lighter. Jelly shoes are also making a comeback.”

Kellie said there was also new school stock coming in.

Dresses featured a lot more last year, she said, and over the Christmas period watches and sunglasses were popular.

“High-waisted shorts continued to sell, but crop tops weren’t as popular.”

For men, versatile clothing continued to be the big-sellers.

“The volley-shorts with the elastic waist were very popular,” Kellie said.

“They are casual shorts but you could also swim in them. Men are still interested in buying singlets and T-shirts.”

Kellie said the most popular trend she had seen was sports gear.

“I think people are into sports gear and becoming fitter.

“I think summer helps, but it seems like a lot more people are attending the gym. We see a lot of people up and down Argent Street in gym gear.

Whether or not it is because there is a gym on the street, that might be the difference.”

But locals also can’t seem to go past the old faithful Van’s or Havianas when it comes to casual footwear.

“Van’s shoes are always popular and thongs like Havianas as well.”
