Broken Hill has its first baby for the New Year, after a little girl was born yesterday.

Azariah King was born at 10.11am. She weighed 2.65kg and was 47cm long.

Her mum, Allicia Edge, said Azariah was due on January 24.

“I was getting some signs over the last couple of days,” Allicia said. “So I knew she was coming.”

It was a relatively quick labour, according to Allicia.

“Once my water broke, she was here,” she said.

Azariah joins three brothers, who are all very happy with the new arrival.

“I am very happy and proud to have my first girl,” Allicia said.

“All the boys are very excited to have a little sister.”

Last year, 228 babies were born at the local hospital, a drop of 26 from the previous year.

Twelve women are expected to give birth this month.
