A day for the nurses

The hospital celebrated by displaying nurses' uniforms from different era's in the foyer and also held a free barbecue for all the nursing staff.

“I can’t believe that it’s only 25 years since nursing went over to Tertiary education,” said Director of Nursing, Dale Sutton.“I think the day really celebrates the dedicated work of nurses and their services to the community.”

The senior nursing team at the hospital held a fundraiser to raise money for the barbecue.The nurses also received a cinema pass and a poem expressing thanks for their service to the community. “We don’t get the opportunity to say thank you enough to nurses” Ms Sutton said.

International Nurses Day is held each year on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birthday. The English nurse is remembered for her pioneering work during the Crimean War.
