The Broken Hill Post Shop is helping to celebrate the christening of His Royal Highness, Prince George by offering two official commemorative stamps.

Australia Post released one domestic base rate (60c) and one international rate ($2.60) to go on sale as of yesterday.

Postal manager Richard Thomas said the renewed sense of interest in the monarchy helped to create awareness of the products from outside of the philatelic community.

“With anything to do with the queen you always get some outside interest,” he said.

“We had a bit of a rush on after the Royal Wedding.”

The release of any new stamp collection also tends to gain attention from certain elements of the community, explained Mr Thomas.

“We also have our usual philatelic customers who will collect stamps whether they are commemorative or not,” he said.

Regular customers also have the chance to come into contact with the stamps as they are released into normal circulation.

“We will also be selling them as standard issue stamps,” Mr Thomas said.

Australia Post Philatelic Manager Michael Zolst was thrilled with the latest release.

“Australia Post is delighted to mark the christening of His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, with this stamp issue that captures this milestone in the life of the future king,” he said.

Australia Post has also released a prestige postal and numismatic cover featuring a Royal Australian Mint 50 cent coin available at the Broken Hill Post Shop.
