Children are enjoying splashing about during the school holidays with the YMCA swimming program.

Over 120 children have enjoyed a two-week intensive holiday swimming lessons program at YMCA-managed Broken Hill Regional Aquatic Centre.

The “Holiday Splash” program offered lessons for children aged six months and over and caters for all levels of ability.

Centre Manager Shane Simmons said the overwhelming amount of interest in the program highlights community awareness of the need for swimming lessons.

“Across Australia over 30,000 kids participate in this program every week.”

Every year, hundreds of Australian families are devastated by drowning, with many more suffering the emotional trauma associated with near drowning.

“It’s not too late to sign up for lessons next term. Why not make it your’s, or your child’s New Year’s resolution?” Shane said.

Maria Pitsillou is the mother of twins, George and Maritsa. She joined her children up for swimming lessons.

“This is their second week and they love it - they are becoming more confident in the water,” Maria said.
