Ten swimmers from the Alma Swimming Club represented Broken Hill and their club at the SA Country Carnival over four days earlier this month.

This year the Country Carnival was held at Murray Bridge, SA. Eight of the swimmers qualified for the SA Country section and two swam in the Superfish section.

The families who attended reported that the swimmers displayed a very high level of fitness, endurance and showed true character and dedication in backing up to compete in all events.

A number of the swimmers had attended Country in previous years but for a few of the swimmers it was their first time at a Carnival this large. And they did great!

At 18 Josh Hands was the oldest competitor. He swam in 11 events including relays, and placed in three events and beat State Qualifying times in two events.

His results were: 50m Backstroke - Bronze; 50m Breaststroke - Bronze; 4x50m Medley Relay - Silver.

Bailey Stubing (16) swam in 13 events, plus relays, and placed in six events and also beat State Qualifying times in all those events.

His results were: 50m Butterfly - Bronze; 100m Butterfly - Bronze.

Zoey Gasmier (11) competed in four Superfish events: 50m Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. Zoey also competed in 100m Backstroke Country event.

Zoey was the only female representing the club this year and put in a fantastic effort.

Liam Baker (10) competed in four Superfish events: 50m Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly.

Liam competed in 100m Backstroke and Breaststroke and two relay Country events.

Justin Cochrane-Adolfson (8) swam in Superfish, competing in four events: 50m Backstroke, Freestyle, Breaststroke and Butterfly. Justin Placed 1st in the 50m Butterfly.

Justin had a blast at the Country Carnival watching his brother and the rest of the team.

Kade McLachlan-Menz (6) was the youngest competitor. It was his first Superfish and he swam in three events: 50m Backstroke, Freestyle and Breaststroke. His mum said he had fun and his favourite stroke is Breaststroke. He said his super short haircut made him swim faster.

The Cochrane-Adolfson family have taken Jesse to compete in the SA State carnival. Jesse will be swimming in 11 events over the 4 days. We are sure he will represent Alma and Broken Hill with all he has.

Good Luck to Jesse and the swimmers who have gone from other clubs.
