Australia Day is an occasion for everyone to celebrate the achievements and great aspects of our country and this weekend locals will be doing just that.

One local who is grateful for the opportunities Australia has given him is 90-year-old Danilo Ragenovich.

Dan emigrated from Yugoslavia in the 1930s. He became an Australian citizen when he joined the Army.

“That was a long time ago,” he said.

“I have lived in Sydney, Adelaide, Broken Hill.”

Dan said he and his family moved to Australia to escape the war.

“Australia is the best place in the world, I wouldn’t live anywhere else.”

Australia Day festivities will be in full swing on Sunday morning with the official ceremony beginning at the Civic Centre.
