Former Broken Hill resident Sharryn Files is appealing to locals for support as she prepares to participate in the Ride to Conquer Cancer, a 200km trek from the Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide to the Barossa Valley and back.

Sharryn was inspired to take part in the ride after losing her father in law Gerald to lung cancer in 2007 and recently discovering another family member had been diagnosed with a similar disease.

Sharryn has not ridden a bike for 20 years but reported she had begun training in preparation for the ride taking place on November 29 and 30.

Local residents can show their support by visiting www.conquercancer.org.au/index.html, selecting Adelaide and clicking on donate at the top of the screen.

This will allow you to search for Sharryn Files as a participant, who is encouraging those who show support to leave a comment to help her on her way.

Additionally, donations for a silent auction in Adelaide in September are now being accepted.

If you would like to offer an item for the auction, please contact Sharryn’s sister in law Karen at kaztaz6401@gmail.com

All proceeds will go toward the Flinders Medical Centre Foundation.
