Deviant on the loose

Wednesday, 5th March, 2014

Broken Hill Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward after a man allegedly committed an indecent act in front of three girls, the youngest just eight years old.

The three girls, aged 8, 12 and 13, were travelling on the bus when it stopped and collected passengers, including the suspect, in Argent Street about 3pm on Friday, February 28.

According to police, the man sat behind the girls and engaged them in conversation while committing the indecent act before leaving the bus.

Once the girls returned home, they informed their parents who contacted the police.

Detective Inspector Mick Stoltenberg said he felt that members of the public who did have information would be forthcoming due to the nature of the incident.

“We have already spoken to a number of people,” he said.

Unfortunately, he said, the bus was not fitted with a security camera.

The man was described as being between 40 and 60 years old, balding with grey hair, no front teeth, a beard and a large build.

At the time, he was wearing denim shorts and a yellow and white striped tee-shirt.

Investigators are appealing for anyone with any information about the incident to contact the Broken Hill Police Station on 8087 0299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
