One of Australia’s most prolific country music artists is set for an appearance in Broken Hill this month.
Adam Brand will perform at the Broken Hill Harness Racing Club’s Carnival of Cups on Friday, March 14.
The 12-time Country Music Australia Award ‘Golden Guitar’ Award winner will be performing a relaxed acoustic set.
“It will be very casual, so people are welcome to come up, say hello and we’ll have a good old laugh,” he said. “I’m not quite sure what I’ll play just yet ... we’ll decide on the day and see what we feel like on the night.”
The 44-year-old was voted ‘Oz Artist of the Year’ five times in a row between 2007 and ‘11. He has recently been touring with Harness Racing
NSW and has performed at meetings in Parkes, Orange and Bathurst.
An avid V8 supercar and speedway driver, Brand has also developed an appreciation for racing of a different form.
“People may not know much about harness racing, and I’m not a professional or expert either, but since doing this I’ve really started to enjoy it,” he told the BDT.
“It’s tough out there and pretty uncompromising ... they get up a fair bit of speed too.”
Brand is planning to release a new record this year and hopes to return to Broken on the album tour.
“I’ve always had great shows out here, so I’d be keen to come out again,” he said.
Former Australian Idol contestant Shannon Noll played at the St Patrick’s Day weekend last year, which attracted a crowd of more than 3000 to the trots.
Its success saw BH Harness Racing Club awarded Best Level Three Meeting in 2012/13.
