Broken Hill Police have made an arrest in relation to an incident that took place in front of three young girls on a public bus last Friday, February 28.

Inspector Mick Dawson said police picked up the alleged offender yesterday afternoon.

“We currently have a 47-year-old in custody,” he said, adding that the man would be charged with committing an act of indecency in relation to the incident.

Police said they had received a number of phone calls from members of the public following a plea for witnesses to come forward.

“We did receive information from the community and also had other avenues we followed,” Inspector Dawson said.

Earlier this week, Detective Inspector Mick Stoltenberg said the man had been described as between 40 and 60 years old, balding with grey hair, no front teeth, a beard and a large build.

The three girls aged 8, 12 and 13 were travelling on the bus when it stopped to collect a number of passengers, including the man, in Argent Street about 3pm.

According to police, he sat behind the girls and engaged them in conversation while allegedly committing the indecent act before leaving the bus.
