Major renovations at the Silver City Cinema are testament to a belief in the local economy, according to business owner John Wren.
The project involves new seating for the theatre and an increase in capacity from 355 to about 480.
“I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t have faith in Broken Hill,” Mr Wren said.
“I want to show that there are people in Broken Hill who are investing in the town.”
The seats have been shipped in from Melbourne and work will be completed in stages over the next few months to allow the cinema to continue running.
Finance for the development has been secured through the profits of the business and Mr Wren was pleased to be able to allocate funds toward maintaining a quality picture theatre.
“Broken Hill people enjoy coming to the movies and I want to be able to provide the best facilities,” he said.
“People who are sitting in a cinema for a couple of hours, they want to be comfortable.”
