The Broken Hill Soccer Association is preparing to kick start their season with a bang.
With trials now less than one week away, the BHSA is holding a week of festivities to officially open the 2014 season.
A gala day will be held today at the soccer fields from 10.30am to 4pm.
Raffles, games, jumping castle, canteen facilities and a barbecue lunch will be set up, while players of all ages can register to play.
“The association are encouraging people from the community to come and see what soccer is all about,” Publicity Officer Emma Reeves said.
A seven-a-side friendly knock out competition will also be held.
West’s Zac Gilmour said he was eager for pre-season games to begin next weekend.
“We’re very excited about the season starting up and the launch on the weekend,” he said.
The second part of the gala week sees exhibition games between the Celtic, Alma, St. Joes and West on Thursday, March 26.
Eight junior and eight senior players from each club will form mixed teams with games commencing at 7.45pm.
Meanwhile, the BHSA remain on the hunt for a registrar and additional referees.
“The biggest part of the registrar’s job is typically at the start of the season and is much easier than it used to be because players register themselves online now,” Reeves said.
Anyone interested can talk to a committee member on the opening day.
Three weekends of trial games begin on March 28, while the opening round of the season is set for the first weekend in May.
