Broken Hill’s School of the Air preschool students, who normally live hundreds of kilometres from each other, came to the city yesterday for a rare opportunity to meet their classmates.
Teachers Jan Schorn and Sim Tummons said that such meetings, which occur about twice a term, were crucial in developing confidence from a young age.
“The main aim is getting their confidence up and getting them used to leaving mum,” Mrs Schorn said.
“ It’s been great so far. It gives the kids an opportunity to see each other.”
The two classes met at the BH TAFE yesterday with plans to pay a visit to the city library later in the afternoon.
With a total of 26 enrolments, this is the first year the preschool learning program has been extended to include an extra class.
Principal Scott Sanford was pleased with the increase in pupils that might, hopefully, filter through to older grades.
“It has shown a great growth in numbers in our area,” he said.
